Yesterday was my gestational diabetes test. Really hoping I passed. GD sounds like no fun at all.
The saddest part was I was sitting in the waiting area after downing the delicious glucose drink (flat orange soda, anyone?) and thinking "wow, I should have a really big piece of chocolate cake tonight in case they tell me I have GD and have to lay off the sweets."
Evy has her Daddy's sweet tooth. Before I got pregnant, I would make Ted a batch of brownies and ask only that he'd save me a corner or two... Now he could well lose a finger if he touches any of them without inquiring as to our (me and Baby Evy's) brownie requirements and acquisitions. And he has gotten more than one death stare. :)
So my fingers are crossed that I don't have GD -you know, for health reasons.... and because I have two-thirds of Amy's birthday cakes sitting on my kitchen counter.
Someone pass the skim milk.

The Bean Update
We had our November check up on the 12th. All is good.
Bean sounds great -HB is between 150 and 160. I'm measuring right on target at 16.
And... here's the exciting part... we have our anatomy scan (ie gender-teller) on November 25! Everyone can expect a Turkey Day Text with the big news.

The Shy Bean vs. The Impatient Mommy
In light of the fact that I am truly one of the most impatient people on the face of this earth (I've been told in the past that I spend half my life wishing my life away), I jumped at the chance to borrow my neighbor's Prenatal Heart Listener so we could get an auditory peek at what the Bean's up to in there before our OB appt on Thursday.
Turns out either he's very shy, very quiet (if it's either of those he's in BIG BIG trouble in the McCarthy-Freeman gatherings) or just way too little to be voyeured on by a $29.00 listening device.

Redemption...
Bean's heart is at 166 BPM.. the same BPM as Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell". (Take that Opera!)
Besides that all looks really good. Heart is strong and I'm measuring spot on for a 3-month preggo.
We're still on track for a late April baby... Unless "Rebel Yell" is indeed this kid's anthem. :)
Next OB appt 11/13.

Oh no...
Last night Ted and I attended a hoity toity black tie function for HOK. The entertainment for the evening was a performance of opera by a Broadway star (if you say so...)
One of my co-workers mentioned that she went to see a Los Lonely Boys concert while she was pregnant and her kiddo loved it in utero and still jams out when LLB are played.
We could have a problem here, folks....

8 Weeks
All is going perfectly!
Had our first visit with the OB yesterday. Everything looks great. We are right on track for a 4/27 due date.
Today was our last appointment with RMG. (Woo HOO!). Although I did get this nice little parting shot of the Beanster. Looks just like his/her daddy! :)

Hello? Bean? Everything good in there?
Maybe all women go through it...
Maybe those who have had fertility issues are more prone...
Maybe it's just me...
But I have been worrying about the pregnancy... Will it stick? Is it eptopic? What does less morning sickness today mean? Is everything okay? Am I eating enough good foods? Am I drinking enough water? (Oh, I better be... my eyeballs are floating!) Can I exercise? What constitutes 'strenuous'?
I know I have to quit worrying and my husband reminded me last night that my one and only job right now is to "bake the bean", relax and keep positive. And I know he's right, but I really will be so much more relaxed and positive in exactly 6 weeks -the first day of Trimester 2.

Finally..My Days as a Pin Cushion are Over!
Yesterday was the last confirmation of the pregnancy that RMG needed - My fourth blood pregnancy test.
For those of you not familiar with the relationship of a fertility-specialist-and-a newly-pregnant-woman-who-has-gotten-pregnant-without-their help: the fertility docs don't give up. Now that Ted and I have made this bean the old fashioned way (soo much nicer and more romantic than the things we'd been through at RMG I am sure Ted would agree), RMG has stepped in to confirm, re-confirm, re-re-confirm and finally re-re-re-confirm that I am indeed pregnant. I think they don't believe that we did it without them.
So they start a battery of blood (aka Beta) Pregnancy tests. Most women might have one. I have had four. They are looking for the "pregnancy hormone" HCG. And then once it's detected and your pregnant, they expect it to double every 48 hours.
So here's my track:
Friday, Aug 14: 20
Monday, Aug 17: 169
Wednesday, Aug 19: 422
Friday, Aug 21: 1348
And upon hearing Friday's number I had to ask, "It's just one, right?"
Nurse: "We can't know until your ultrasound on the 8th"
When it rained, it might have poured. To be continued on the 8th at 2:15 p.m.....

Really? Really?!
Friday, August 14: I woke up and for no other reason that I just felt like I should, I took a pregnancy test. Knowing it would be negative, I hopped in the shower while it decided. And when I got out and peeked at what for the last 15 months has been the Window of Negativity, this time the "not" was missing. It said "pregnant". Pregnant. Pregnant? Not believing it, and in a state of shock I took the test to Ted for confirmation. "what does that mean?" (not much help in the confirmation department.) "I think it means I have to go to the doctor this morning."
My mom was coming up for day to attend a conference with me. When she got there I showed her the test (WOO HOO. settle down mom) and told her we had to make a pit stop for a blood test.
Off to RMG -my second home. Nurse Norma was excited for me. "Its a good sign to get a positive this early. You're pregnant" One vial taken. Fingers crossed and now we wait. They would call by 3:00.
The longest 6 hours of my life passed. yes, 6. I couldn't wait anymore. I called at 2:01. "Your test is positive but it's only a 20. We would expect the number to be above 100 when you've missed your period."
"But I haven't missed my period. it's not due for another week."
"Oh, well then we need to see you on Monday."
Saturday, August 15: HPT #2 "Pregnant" Start believing test one wasn't a complete fluke.
Sunday, August 16: HPT #3 "Pregnant" Okay, this could be for real.
Monday, August 17: HPT #4 "Pregnant" I'm starting to get used to this.
Monday, August 17 -11:00: Beta #2
Monday, August 17-3:07 -"Your number looks good. It's 169"
WE'RE (OFFICIALLY) PREGNANT!!!! :)
